Training
We train daily Sunday
through Saturday: 8 am, 10 am, 1 pm and 3 pm. |
|
| |
Orientation Flight
It all starts with that exciting first flight! We offer
a half hour or one hour orientation where the student gets familiar with
the aircraft and actually gets to take the controls.
This is where the future student can get a feel for what it
is like to become a helicopter pilot and enter the exciting
world of flight. |

Student Pilot
After the orientation flight the student can enroll in our
State of Michigan Licensed Flight School. The next step is
to work toward that first solo, which will require a minimum
of 20 hours of flight time. Ground training is
integrated into each two hour lesson. All of our instructors
use a syllabus that was written and developed by our Chief
Pilot for Western Michigan University. A FAA Medical
and Student Pilots License must be obtained prior to solo
flight from a FAA approved medical doctor. |

Private Pilot
The next step is to get that Private Pilots License. After
completion of additional flight requirements and written
tests to meet Private Pilot standards, it's off to a FAA
flight examiner. (Like going to the Department of Motor
Vehicles for your first driver's license.) Pass the
check ride and now you can fly
on your own and take passengers. Minimum requirements are 40 hours of flight
time, three written tests and the check ride. Most people
need 50 to 60 hours of flight time depending on how often
they fly and their own individual learning ability. It is
important to note that this license does not allow the pilot
to make money flying, as that requires a Commercial License. |

Commercial Pilot
The purpose of this training is to bring the flying
maneuvers and skills of the pilot to commercial standards.
This license requires a minimum of 150 hours, with at least
100 hours being Pilot in Command, another written exam and
check ride. Completion of these requirements make it
possible to fly for hire. |

Instrument Rated
Pilot
While not required, we do offer instrument training for
those pilots that want it, or those going on to do Emergency
Medical Flights or Gulf of Mexico flights for the oil
companies. This rating requires an additional 40 hours of
flight time, a written test and check ride. |
